Hyderabad, July 1, 2025 – A devastating explosion at Sigachi Industries Pvt. Ltd., a pharmaceutical unit in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district, has claimed 45 lives, marking one of the deadliest industrial accidents in Telangana’s history. The tragic incident, which occurred on Monday, June 30, 2025, between 8:15 AM and 9:35 AM, was triggered by a suspected chemical reaction in a reactor, causing a massive fire and collapsing a three-story building. Rescue operations continue as authorities search for missing workers amidst the debris.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy visited the blast site and injured workers in a Patancheru hospital on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, announcing a compensation of Rs 1 crore for the families of each deceased worker, to be provided by the company and state government. “This is a heart-wrenching tragedy, unlike any in Telangana’s past,” Reddy said, emphasizing accountability. He also pledged Rs 10 lakh for those with critical injuries and Rs 5 lakh for those with minor injuries. Immediate relief of Rs 1 lakh for families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured has been ordered to address urgent needs.
The explosion at Sigachi Industries, a key manufacturer of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), has raised serious concerns about safety protocols. Of the 143 workers present during the blast, 58 have been accounted for, while others remain missing, feared trapped under rubble or having fled in panic. The state has launched a five-member high-level committee, including the Chief Secretary and Additional DGP (Fire Services), to probe the incident and recommend safety reforms.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences, announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh per deceased worker’s family and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. The company, facing a 90-day suspension of operations due to extensive damage, has committed to supporting affected families. DNA tests are underway to identify severely charred remains, adding to the anguish of waiting relatives.
Chief Minister Reddy vowed strict action against those responsible, stating, “We’ll ensure this never happens again by fixing safety lapses.” The incident has sparked calls for rigorous inspections across Telangana’s chemical industries to prevent future tragedies.
As the nation mourns, the focus remains on supporting the victims’ families and ensuring accountability. YaHind.Com will continue to provide updates as rescue efforts and investigations unfold.
