University of Hyderabad Congratulates Alumnus Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin on Appointment to RBI Central Board

Hyderabad, August 2026: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has congratulated its distinguished alumnus, Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin, IFS (Retd.), on his appointment to the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

He has been appointed as a Part-Time Non-Official Director for a term of four years. The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet in August 2026.

Ambassador Akbaruddin completed his MA in Political Science at the University of Hyderabad during 1980–82. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1985 and went on to hold several key positions. These include serving as Consul General of India in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (2000–2004), Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations (2016–2020), Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (2012–2015), and India’s representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.

He is currently serving as Dean of the Kautilya School of Public Policy (at GITAM Deemed to be University, Hyderabad).
