RIYADH: The Saudi Telangana Association (SATA) has urged the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to take proactive measures to safeguard the voting rights of Gulf workers and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) during the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls.
Addressing the issue, SATA Riyadh President Srinivas Machha emphasized the need to ensure that the names of overseas Telugu Indian citizens, particularly Gulf workers, are retained in the electoral rolls. He called upon both state governments to launch extensive awareness campaigns and strengthen online voter registration and verification services, enabling eligible voters residing abroad to update and preserve their electoral status with ease.
Srinivas Machha noted that the overseas Telugu diaspora has made significant contributions to the economic and social development of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He stressed that protecting their democratic rights, especially their right to vote, should remain a priority for the respective governments.
SATA also appealed to the Embassy of India to coordinate with the Governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, as well as the Election Commission of India, to ensure that the voting rights of Gulf workers and NRIs are effectively protected and facilitated.
Supporting the appeal were SATA Founder Malleshan; Regional Presidents Sharvani Vidyadharani, Teja Pallem, and Pamireddy Ramireddy; along with core team members Kokila Otturi, Preeti Chauhan, Mohammed Nooruddin, Yogeshwara Rao Veerapalli, Singu Suresh Kumar, Ahmed Abdul Kareem, Mohammed Abdul Ghaffar, Midhun Suresh, Mudigonda Shankar, Murali Krishna Boosi, Lokesh Thalla, Abdul Nayeem Qayyum, Khaja Mujammil Uddin, Ahmed Mohiuddin, Roldar Syed (Aslam), Phani Kumar Ayyagari, Pentapati Sri Charan, Mohammed Kamil, Doodam Sanjeev, and Shekhar Padala, who collectively urged the authorities to protect and facilitate the electoral rights of overseas Telugu People.
