JEDDAH: The OICC Malappuram District Committee inaugurated the “Pravasi Seva Kendra @ Jeddah”, a new initiative aimed at supporting expatriate welfare. The centre began its services with the first NORKA application submitted by Shoukkathu Puzhakkattiri, received by veteran leader Chemban Abbas, marking the formal start of its operations under the Kerala Government’s NORKA campaign (June 15–July 15).
Presiding over the function, Aziz Lakal stressed collective efforts for expatriate welfare. In his inaugural address, Chemban Abbas said the centre would provide guidance and support across key areas including employment, legal aid, healthcare, education, and documentation, expressing confidence that it would offer extensive assistance to those in need. The centre will function every Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Community leaders, including Yasir Naif, Ibn Sharif Master, Faisal Makkaraparamba, Ismail Kooripoyil, Usman Kundukavil, Sameer Pandikkad, Anas Neelancherry, and Shamsuddin Vengoor, extended greetings. Gafoor Wandoor, Convenor, outlined the centre’s objectives, while the programme began with a welcome by U.M. Hussain Malappuram and concluded with a vote of thanks by Usman Melattur.
With strong support from community leaders and volunteers, the initiative is expected to emerge as a reliable support hub for expatriates, strengthening welfare efforts and serving as a sustained beacon of assistance in the region.
