Hyderabad, June 28, 2025 – A Muslim man was arrested by Narayanguda police on Saturday, June 28, 2025, for allegedly making derogatory comments against Hindu deities and idol worship. The incident, which took place on Friday night, June 27, at a local eatery, sparked outrage among customers and led to swift police action.
The altercation began over a payment dispute, where the accused claimed he was owed Rs 140. In a heated exchange, he reportedly said, “I am a Muslim and I am steadfast in my faith. These people worship stones,” offending other customers, primarily Hindus, who confronted him. The confrontation was captured on CCTV, escalating tensions in the area.
Narayanguda Station House Officer (SHO) U Chandra Shekar confirmed the arrest, stating that the accused has been booked under sections 302 (hurting religious sentiments), 196 (disturbing communal harmony), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have urged the public to maintain peace and refrain from sharing provocative content on social media.
Local BJP leader and Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh commended the police’s swift response, emphasizing that strict action against those making objectionable remarks about Hindu gods would deter future incidents. “Be it any religion, the police should take stern action against those who hurt religious sentiments,” Singh stated.
This incident follows a series of similar events in Hyderabad, raising concerns about communal harmony. Authorities are intensifying efforts to monitor and prevent such occurrences, with calls for calm and unity from community leaders.
