Dubai, June 26, 2025 – Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made his first public statement on Thursday following the conclusion of the 12-day Iran-Israel conflict, declaring a decisive victory for Iran. In a post on X, Khamenei stated, “With all that commotion and all those claims, the Zionist regime was practically knocked out and crushed under the blows of the Islamic Republic.” He extended congratulations to the Iranian nation for what he described as a triumph over the “fallacious Zionist regime.”
Khamenei, who reportedly took shelter in a secure location during the conflict as Israeli forces targeted Tehran, emphasized Iran’s resilience. The statement comes after a U.S.-brokered ceasefire brought an end to hostilities that saw Israel launch extensive airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and military infrastructure, prompting Iranian missile and drone retaliations. The conflict, which began on June 13, caused significant damage to Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, though Khamenei’s remarks focused on framing Iran’s response as a success.
The Supreme Leader’s comments reflect a defiant tone, consistent with his earlier warnings during the conflict that Iran would not surrender and would meet aggression with force. While the statement did not address the full extent of the damage to Iran’s nuclear program or the loss of key military figures, it underscores Khamenei’s intent to project strength domestically and regionally.
International reactions to the conflict remain mixed, with regional powers like Qatar and the UAE condemning the violence, while the U.S. and Israel have claimed their strikes significantly set back Iran’s nuclear ambitions. As Iran assesses the aftermath, Khamenei’s statement signals an effort to rally national unity and maintain the Islamic Republic’s narrative of resistance.
