Riyadh: A mesmerizing Sufyana Musical Sham “Sufi Music Evening” was organized in Riyadh under the aegis of the Steering Committee in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event, held over the weekend, celebrated the soulful art of Qawwali, a beautiful medium of expressing Sufi philosophy that transcends barriers of race, religion, and creed, fostering unity, love, and human connection.
Addressing the audience, India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan, eloquently highlighted the essence of Qawwali, stating, “Qawwali erases differences, strengthens human bonds, promotes unity and love, and bridges divides among listeners, igniting a sense of sincerity and devotion.” He extended heartfelt congratulations and a warm welcome to the talented young artist, Rais Anis Sabri, and his troupe from India. Dr. Khan also praised the Steering Committee for their tireless efforts in making the event a grand success.
The evening commenced with captivating opening remarks by the talented anchor and Toastmaster, Mirza Furqana Fatima. Quoting soulful poetry, she described Sufi music as “the language of the soul and a source of solace for the heart and mind.” She added, “Rais Anis Sabri’s enchanting voice and captivating style will open the doors of your heart and lift the veils of your soul.” Furqana’s poetic verses and engaging commentary kept the audience enthralled throughout the event.
Steering Committee Convener, Engineer Mohammad Zaigham Khan, in his welcome address, traced the roots of Qawwali to the 13th century, emphasizing the pivotal role of Hazrat Amir Khusrau in shaping this art form. He noted, “Qawwali touches the soul and brings listeners closer to their Creator.” Apologizing to community members who could not be invited due to limited seating, he expressed gratitude to the Indian Embassy and its officials for their unwavering support in making the large-scale event possible. Zaigham Khan also presented a bouquet of flowers to Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan as a gesture of appreciation.
The event’s sponsors were honored by the Ambassador with traditional shawls and mementos for their invaluable contributions. The sponsors included Mr. Idris Ahmad, CEO of Al-Shifa Medical Services; Engineer Mohammad Abdul Bari, PMO of Masah Specialized Construction Company; Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys Association, Riyadh; Pacific Hitech Arabian Co. Members of the Steering Committee also felicitated the Qawwali troupe’s musicians.
Senior Steering Committee member Abdul Ahad Siddiqui delivered a vote of thanks, after which the enchanting musical performance began. The audience’s enthusiasm was palpable, and Rais Anis, moved by their energy, stepped off the stage to perform among the crowd, swaying in a state of ecstasy alongside the captivated listeners.
Held at the spacious auditorium of the International Indian School in Riyadh, the event drew a large audience that thoroughly enjoyed the soul-stirring performance. The enchanting evening concluded late into the night, leaving attendees with unforgettable memories of a truly magical Sufi music experience.
