Riyadh, August 15, 2025 – The Embassy of India in Riyadh marked India’s 79th Independence Day with a grand celebration, bringing together around one thousand attendees, including members of the Indian diaspora, embassy officials, journalists, and friends of India in Saudi Arabia. The event, held on August 15, radiated patriotic fervor and showcased the deep ties between India and Saudi Arabia.
The festivities commenced with Ambassador Dr. Suhel Ajaz Khan hoisting the Indian tricolour, followed by a stirring rendition of the national anthem. Ambassador Khan paid heartfelt floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi, honoring the Father of the Nation. He then read out the Hon’ble President’s message to the nation and Indians worldwide, reflecting on the significance of the occasion.
In his keynote address, Ambassador Khan emphasized the strong and growing bilateral partnership between India and Saudi Arabia, applauding the Indian diaspora’s pivotal role in strengthening this vibrant relationship. “The Indian community in Saudi Arabia is a bridge of friendship, contributing immensely to the robust ties between our nations,” he said.
The formal proceedings gave way to a captivating cultural program, where members of the Indian community showcased the country’s rich diversity through an eclectic mix of patriotic songs and classical dance performances. The performances enthralled the audience, celebrating India’s cultural heritage and unity in diversity.
Following the event, Ambassador Khan engaged warmly with members of the Indian diaspora, fostering a sense of community and shared pride. In the lead-up to Independence Day, the embassy, its officials, their families, and the Indian community actively participated in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, proudly displaying the tricolour as a symbol of patriotism. Additionally, a special cleanliness drive under the ‘Har Ghar Swachhata’ campaign was organized at the embassy, promoting a clean and efficient workplace while embodying a spirit of service.
The 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh not only honored India’s historic journey since 1947 but also highlighted the enduring partnership between India and Saudi Arabia, strengthened by the vibrant Indian diaspora.
