JEDDAH: The OICC Malappuram District Committee, Jeddah, organized a solemn remembrance gathering in honor of the late Salim Kumar, one of Malayalam cinema’s most celebrated and versatile actors, paying tribute to his remarkable artistic legacy and enduring contributions to society. Participants observed that his demise represents an irreparable loss not only to the world of cinema but also to the broader cultural and social landscape.

The memorial meeting, presided over by Faisal Makkaraparamba, was attended by prominent figures from Jeddah’s cultural, literary, and socio-political circles. The programme commenced with a minute of silence, followed by floral tributes offered before the portrait of the late actor. Addressing the gathering, speakers fondly recalled Salim Kumar’s distinguished career and unwavering commitment to social causes while expressing heartfelt condolences and solidarity with his family, friends, and countless admirers.
In his memorial address, Nasser Veliyamkode remarked that Salim Kumar had carved an unparalleled place in Malayalam cinema through his distinctive acting style and extraordinary versatility. Whether portraying comic characters or emotionally intense roles, he consistently delivered memorable performances that left an indelible mark on the industry. His readiness to take principled positions on social issues and his active participation in public life, he noted, would be remembered with enduring admiration.
Delivering the keynote tribute, Dr. Shibu Thiruvananthapuram, Chief Patron of Navodaya, described the National Award-winning actor’s demise as a profound loss that has created an irreplaceable void in Malayalam cinema and in the hearts of millions of admirers. He observed that Salim Kumar’s invaluable contributions to the film industry and his extensive body of work would continue to resonate across generations. Paying an emotional tribute, Sreetha Anilkumar, Chairperson of Jeddah Kalarathna Dance Academy, said that although Salim Kumar is no longer physically present, the laughter he shared, the lives he influenced, and the memories he created will remain etched in the hearts of Malayalis around the world.
