The Supreme Court of India, on July 4, 2025, rejected a petition challenging the NEET-UG 2025 results due to an alleged error in the answer key for one of the exam questions. Justices P.S. Narasimha and R. Mahadevan, who presided over the case, reiterated that the court could not intervene in individual disputes for a nationwide examination like NEET, which sees participation from lakhs of students. This marks the second such petition dismissed by the court this week, following a similar ruling on July 2, 2025.
The petitioner, Shivam Gandhi Raina, claimed that a mistake in the answer key for Question No. 136 (Code No. 47) resulted in a loss of five marks, impacting his merit ranking and prospects for admission to a top medical college. Citing the NCERT Biology textbook, Raina argued that cortisol’s role in supporting the cardiovascular system validated his answer. However, the court declined to interfere, stating that such interventions could disrupt the counseling process and affect thousands of candidates.
A similar plea was dismissed by the court on June 13, 2025, with the petitioner advised to approach the High Court. The judiciary’s consistent stance highlights its commitment to maintaining the integrity and smooth execution of large-scale examinations like NEET-UG.
