JEDDAH: Mr. Mohamed Basheer, a native of Lalpettai in Tamil Nadu, had travelled to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia a few months ago to perform the sacred pilgrimage of Umrah. What was meant to be a spiritually uplifting journey, however, took an unexpected turn when he fell critically ill and was admitted to a hospital in Madinah.
The moment news of his condition reached Mr. Ashraf of the Madinah Tamil Sangam, he responded without hesitation. Joining hands with Mr. Najeeb Deen, who is also from Lalpettai and works in Madinah, the two embarked on an extraordinary humanitarian mission to ensure that Mr. Basheer could safely return to his homeland. Their efforts were far from easy. For nearly six months, they relentlessly pursued every possible avenue—coordinating with the travel agency, the Consulate General of India in Jeddah, the insurance company, and the hospital authorities. Despite numerous challenges and procedural hurdles, they remained steadfast, driven by compassion and an unwavering sense of responsibility.
Their perseverance finally bore fruit. An ambulance was arranged to transport Mr. Mohamed Basheer from Madinah to Jeddah, from where he was flown to Bengaluru on a stretcher. The insurance company meticulously handled the air ticket, medical clearance, and all the formalities required for his stretcher transfer, ensuring that every aspect of his journey was carried out with utmost care. Throughout this difficult period, Mr. Ashraf remained in constant touch with Mr. Basheer’s family, providing reassurance and coordinating every stage of the repatriation process. Upon his arrival in Bengaluru, Mr. Mohamed Basheer’s son received him and accompanied him by ambulance to their native town of Lalpettai, bringing to an end a long and emotionally draining journey.
This noble act of kindness by Mr. Ashraf and Mr. Najeeb Deen reflects the true spirit of humanity. Their selfless dedication, tireless follow-up, and unwavering support made Mr. Mohammed Basheer’s safe return to his homeland possible after months of hardship. Deeply grateful, Mr. Mohammed Basheer and his family expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Ashraf of the Madinah Tamil Sangam and Mr. Najeebudeen for their exceptional humanitarian service, compassion, and commitment, which will always remain cherished in their hearts.
