JEDDAH: For 13 long years, home remained a distant dream for Tirur native Kassim—a journey repeatedly held back by legal complications and financial burdens. While time moved on and life continued around him, his return to his homeland remained painfully out of reach. But what seemed like an endless wait has finally come to an end, through compassion, collective determination and unwavering community support, Jeddah Tirur Koottaima (JTK) stepped forward to clear the hurdles standing in his way and turn his long-cherished hope of going home into reality. Marking this deeply emotional homecoming, the association organised a farewell gathering at Lucky Darbar Hotel in Sharafiyah on September 4.
Kassim’s 13-year ordeal came to the attention of Jeddah Tirur Koottayma just two months ago. With legal hurdles and financial liabilities exceeding SR 40,000 standing between him and home, the association rallied together to clear the obstacles and complete the necessary formalities.
General Secretary Ashraf Kunnath welcomed the gathering, while President Mohammed Shareef presided. Patron Vasu Velledath outlined Kassim’s ordeal and the collective efforts to overcome his legal and financial hurdles. Welfare Convener Riyas detailed the steps taken and expressed heartfelt appreciation to all members and well-wishers who extended their support and cooperation.Abdul Gafoor, Fazil Kanjikoth, Suhail TK and Mohammed Sameer, Anis Kallngal, Sajiv, Moidu Valiyakath also conveyed their felicitations and good wishes, describing the initiative as a proud reflection of the association’s social responsibility and commitment to its members.
In an emotional response, Kassim expressed his heartfelt gratitude to JTK and everyone who stood by him and helped make his long-awaited return home possible. Treasurer Moidu Valiyakath proposed the vote of thanks.
