JEDDAH: Recognising that confident communication is the cornerstone of effective leadership and meaningful social engagement, the Jeddah Chapter Women’s Circle (JCWC), the women’s wing of CIGI Jeddah, organised its maiden offline speech competition with remarkable enthusiasm. Rooted in the CIGI CLP (Community Leadership Programme) vision of “Developing Leaders Who Enrich Society,” the initiative sought to empower women by honing their public-speaking abilities, strengthening self-confidence and nurturing leadership potential, while inspiring them to become articulate, capable and socially committed leaders.
The competition unfolded across two categories – Prepared Speech and Table Topics – showcasing the participants’ impressive oratory skills, spontaneity, confidence and perspicacious thinking. Muneera Muhammadali deserves special appreciation for securing first place in the Prepared Speech category, with Fathima Nargis earning the second position. In the Table Topics segment, Shamna Riyas and Simi Abdul Khader distinguished themselves by clinching the first and second prizes, respectively. Their commendable performances reflected not only their eloquence and presence of mind but also their dedication, preparation and willingness to step beyond their comfort zones. All four winners deserve heartfelt congratulations for their noteworthy achievements, having earned their accolades fair and square through their eloquence, preparation and commendable performances.
Marking a significant milestone in JCWC’s journey, this maiden face-to-face speaking competition was particularly noteworthy as the organisation’s first-ever offline public-speaking event. It provided members with an inspiring platform to conquer stage fright, express their thoughts with conviction, sharpen their oratory skills and benefit from mutual learning and encouragement. Beyond the competitive spirit, the initiative represented a meaningful stride towards fulfilling the CLP’s vision of nurturing confident, competent and socially conscious leaders committed to making a positive difference in society. The winners were honoured with prizes by Rafseena Ashfaq, Raji Veeran, Aneesa Baiju and Rayanath. Ruby Sameer and Shaimin efficiently discharged their responsibilities as timers, while Shabana Noushad, Rasha Naseeh and Jabna Jaleel played pivotal roles in coordinating and steering the event to a successful conclusion.
The programme was gracefully compered by Aisha Ransi, while Jessie Zubair rendered the Qur’anic recitation. Shabana Noushad delivered the welcome address, and Rafseena Ashfaq presided over the function. The event concluded on an inspiring note, reaffirming that every confident speaker begins with the courage to take the first step onto the stage. It served as an encouraging reminder to aspiring young speakers that public speaking is not merely an innate talent but a skill that can be cultivated through practice, perseverance and determination. By embracing every opportunity to speak, young people can overcome hesitation, find their voice and gradually evolve into confident communicators and influential leaders.
