Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Programme Held at MANUU

Hyderabad: The Al-Beruni Centre for the Study of Social Inclusion (ABCSSI), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), organised a One-Day Sensitization Programme on “Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness: Promoting Early Detection, Prevention, and Well-being” on September 30, 2026.

Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar, MANUU, was the chief guest, while Prof. Shahida, Retired Professor, Department of Women Education, MANUU, chaired the session.

Prof. Danish Moin, Director (I/c), ABCSSI, delivered the welcome address and briefed the gathering on the objectives of the sensitization programme.

In her keynote address, Dr. Sri Lakshmi Brahmandam, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, underscored the critical role of early detection in preventing complications and improving treatment outcomes. She explained the importance of regular Pap smears and HPV testing in identifying cervical abnormalities at an early stage. She also highlighted clinical breast examinations and mammography as essential methods for detecting breast changes and possible signs of cancer.

Ms. Swetha Arun, Club President of the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in India, spoke about the club’s commitment to community service and social welfare. She noted that its initiatives support women’s empowerment, education, health awareness, environmental protection, and underprivileged communities, promoting friendship, personal service, and the motto “Grow & Flourish” through various service activities and awareness programmes.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ayesha Uzma, Assistant Professor. Dr. Swarupa Rani, Assistant Professor (Contractual), proposed the vote of thanks.
