JEDDAH: Amid escalating global environmental concerns that increasingly necessitate unified responsibility and deliberate ecological stewardship, World Environment Day stands as a profound international reminder that human prosperity is inseparably bound to the health and sustainability of our planet.
Echoing the ethos of this significant occasion, the Women’s Wing of Jeddah Kerala Kalasahithi, a prominent expatriate cultural organisation, observed the day with a thoughtfully curated and impact-oriented environmental awareness programme. The initiative convened women and children in a purposeful celebration of environmental guardianship, cultivating awareness on the imperative of safeguarding nature through collective engagement and sustainable lifestyles.
Far from being an armchair job, the programme—guided by the dynamic leadership of Women’s Wing Convener Shani Shanavas—emerged as an influential platform for instilling ecological awareness among the younger generation.
With emphasis on pressing global concerns such as climate change, global warming, and biodiversity conservation, the initiative encouraged children to articulate their understanding of environmental responsibility through creative expression.
Through evocative illustrations and insightful charts, the young participants eloquently projected their aspirations for a sustainable future. Their artistic contributions reflected a resolute conviction that informed action and environmental mindfulness can decisively contribute to the restoration and preservation of the planet. In recognition of their creativity, awareness, and commitment to ecological responsibility, the children were felicitated with awards, further motivating them to evolve as conscientious stewards of the Earth and committed advocates of a greener tomorrow.
Far beyond a ceremonial observance, the event resonated as a compelling appeal for environmental consciousness and community-driven action. Coordinated by Shani Shanavas—who served as the linchpin of the initiative—alongside Rizana Jefthikar and Saleena Musafir, the programme seamlessly blended awareness-building with creative engagement, inspiring participants, particularly children, to internalize the principles of sustainable living and ecological responsibility.
The occasion was further enriched by vibrant cultural presentations and a mesmerizing guitar performance by Deepa Johnson. Musafir, Patron of Kerala Kalasahithi, lauded the organisers and participants for their unwavering dedication to fostering environmental awareness. Prizes were distributed by Naushad Adoor, Darwin, Santhosh Vadavattath, A. Alavi, Mohan Balan, and Manisha Mathew, who commended the young participants and underscored that meaningful environmental transformation is rooted in awareness, responsibility, and collective endeavour.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from Rajiya, Faizi, Sunitha, Rani, Manisha, Raija, Jelma, Suja, Manju, Jancy Mohan, Renuka Sivan, Sabira, Shabana, Ruby, Tushara, Naseema, Rashna, Mashitha, Soumya, Shimna, Nadiya, Bincy, and Shana, whose active involvement significantly enhanced the success of the event. The gathering concluded on an inspiring and optimistic note, leaving participants imbued with a renewed sense of environmental duty and the shared conviction that even modest, mindful actions can collectively shape a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future for generations ahead.
