Hyderabad, September 27, 2025 – V. Channappa Sajjanar, a 1996-batch IPS officer, has been appointed the new Commissioner of Police for Hyderabad City, the Telangana government announced late Friday. Known for his tough stance on crime, Sajjanar succeeds C.V. Anand, bringing his formidable reputation to lead law enforcement in the state’s bustling capital.
Born on October 24, 1968, in Hubli, Karnataka, Sajjanar holds a Bachelor of Commerce from J.G. College of Commerce, Hubli, and an MBA from Kousali Institute of Management Studies, Dharwad. Joining the IPS in 1996, he served in the Andhra Pradesh cadre before transitioning to Telangana post-bifurcation.
Sajjanar’s career is marked by decisive operations. In 2008, as Warangal’s Superintendent of Police, he led an encounter that eliminated three suspects in an acid attack case, earning both praise and controversy. In 2019, as Cyberabad Police Commissioner, he oversaw the encounter of four accused in the Disha Singsala rape-murder case, cementing his “encounter specialist” image. Promoted to Additional Director General of Police in 2021, he served as Inspector General (Special Intelligence) and SP, Warangal Urban, focusing on women’s safety and cybercrime prevention. Since August 2021, he was Managing Director of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, driving key operational reforms.
Social media erupted with support. A Telangana Congress coordinator hailed Sajjanar as a “dynamic leader,” while an activist described him as “daring and dashing.” A local business welcomed his appointment, praising his strict and dedicated approach.
Tasked with addressing Hyderabad’s rising cybercrimes and urban challenges, Sajjanar is expected to prioritize robust enforcement and public safety. YaHind.Com will closely monitor his tenure.
