109 Miss World 2025 contestants visit Charminar on May 13
Hyderabad, May 14, 2025: The vibrant city of Hyderabad welcomed 109 Miss World 2025 contestants from across the globe for a captivating Heritage Walk through its historic Old City on May 13. The event, a highlight of the ongoing 72nd Miss World Festival, showcased the cultural richness of Telangana at the iconic Charminar and the bustling Laad Bazaar.
The delegates arrived at Charminar in four specially arranged buses, greeted by the rhythmic beats of traditional Hadrami Marfa music and the regal sounds of Naubat drums at the Jullu Khana entrance. The 400-year-old monument, built in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah to mark the end of a devastating plague, served as a stunning backdrop for a special photo shoot capturing the contestants’ elegance alongside its architectural grandeur. Many contestants climbed the monument’s minarets, marveling at the panoramic views of Hyderabad’s sprawling skyline.
From Charminar, the group proceeded to Laad Bazaar, also known as Chudi Bazaar, a historic market renowned for its traditional bangles, pearls, and intricate zari work. The contestants explored nine handpicked stores, including Hyderabad Bangles, Mujeeb Bangles, Kanhaiyalal, Motilal Karwa, Gokuldas Zariwala, K.R. Kasat, Jaju Pearls, A.H. Zariwala, and Afzal Miya Karchobwale. They witnessed live demonstrations of bangle-making, gaining insight into the city’s skilled craftsmanship. Local traders warmly welcomed the delegates, gifting them traditional ornaments and encouraging them to share Hyderabad’s unique charm with their home countries.
The Heritage Walk, organized by the Forum for a Better Hyderabad, also included guided tours of key landmarks like Mecca Masjid and Chowmahalla Palace. The evening culminated at the majestic Chowmahalla Palace, once the residence of the Nizams, where the contestants enjoyed a cultural dinner. The event featured a mehendi ceremony, opportunities to wear traditional Nizami attire, and screenings of short films highlighting Telangana’s tourist attractions. A soulful Hindustani shehnai performance and a musical concert by prominent artists added to the royal ambiance.
Hyderabad’s Old City was adorned for the occasion, with dazzling light displays and special lanterns illuminating the 300-meter stretch of Laad Bazaar. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) ensured the area was cleaned and beautified, while robust security arrangements, including women police officers, allowed the contestants to mingle freely with locals. The event was broadcast live to over 150 countries, bringing global attention to Hyderabad’s rich heritage and warm hospitality.
The Miss World 2025 festivities, which kicked off with a grand opening ceremony at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on May 10, will continue until May 31, with contestants visiting other Telangana landmarks like Warangal Fort and the UNESCO-listed Ramappa Temple
