Hyderabad is shrouded in grief following the passing of Giyasuddin Babu Khan, a celebrated philanthropist, educator, businessman, and real estate developer, who left an indelible mark on society. The revered figure passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and transformation that touched countless lives across India.
Giyasuddin Babu Khan was not only a successful entrepreneur, co-founding Moghul Builders and Planners and Babukhan Properties, which shaped Hyderabad’s modern skyline, but also a visionary philanthropist. He founded the Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust (HZCT) and the Giyasuddin Babukhan Charitable Trust (GBKCT), organizations that became beacons of hope for the underprivileged. Through these initiatives, he dedicated his life to education and literacy, uplifting thousands of students in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. His efforts ensured that meritorious yet economically disadvantaged students could pursue higher education, offering them scholarships and opportunities for a brighter future.
One of his most notable contributions was the establishment of the Hyderabad Institute of Excellence (HIE), a residential college designed to provide quality education with values, ethics, and leadership training. Spread over 115 acres near Vikarabad, the institute has been instrumental in nurturing young talent, particularly from remote areas. The HZCT, under his guidance, collected significant funds through Zakat donations—starting with Rs 11 lakh in 1992 and growing to support over 24,000 students across 106 schools—demonstrating his commitment to structured charitable giving.
Beyond education, Khan’s philanthropy extended to women’s empowerment, vocational training, and community development. His trusts sponsored programs to support young widows and distributed substantial scholarships, such as Rs 3.98 crores to 10,270 students in the 2021-22 academic year. He also contributed to building schools and mosques in rural regions, fostering holistic community growth. His work earned him the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad National Award in 2014 from the Government of Telangana for his efforts in minority upliftment.
The news of his demise has elicited an outpouring of condolences from political, religious, and social leaders. Tributes on social media and news platforms highlight his role as a true humanitarian whose dedication transformed lives. His funeral prayers (namaz-e-janazah) and burial are scheduled to take place at Masjid-e-Baqi, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills, after Isha prayers at 8:30 PM today.
Giyasuddin Babu Khan’s legacy as a builder, educator, and philanthropist will continue to inspire generations. YaHind.com extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives he touched. May Almighty Allah SWT grant him the highest place in Jannah and provide strength to those mourning his loss.
