On 23.01.2026 Al Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, witnessed a magnificent celebration of Tamil heritage as the Al Ahsa Tamil Sangam organized the Grand Tamil Festival, commemorating Thai Pongal, Thiruvalluvar Day / Farmers’ Day, and Overseas Tamils Day. The event brought together more than 200 members of the Tamil community, along with their families, in a remarkable display of unity, tradition, and cultural pride.
The festival commenced with the traditional Pongal cooking ceremony, symbolizing gratitude and prosperity. This was followed by a series of engaging rural sports competitions, including Uriyadi and Tug of War, where participants across all age groups demonstrated enthusiasm, teamwork, and festive spirit.
A special highlight of the celebration was the Tamil traditional art competitions for children, which attracted wide participation and appreciation. Outstanding performers were recognized with prizes, reinforcing the importance of nurturing young talents and preserving cultural heritage among the younger generation.
The cultural segment featured a rich blend of classical and folk performances, a captivating Tamil live orchestra, and an energetic DTS music concert. The evening reached its peak with a spellbinding performance by Saudi Star Hashim Abbas, whose artistry left a lasting impression on the audience.
The success of the festival was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the office bearers and management committee members, who ensured seamless planning and execution. The Grand Tamil Festival stood as a proud testament to the vibrant cultural life, strong community bonds, and enduring traditions of Tamils living in Saudi Arabia, making it a truly memorable and inspiring occasion.
