Kaveri University, October 16: Kaveri University marked World Mental Health Day with an inspiring Mental Health Awareness Programme under the initiative “Thrive @ KU – Connect, Reflect, Grow,” conceptualized by Dr. Nida Fatima Hazari. The programme aims to nurture mental resilience and holistic well-being among students through mindfulness, emotional expression, and community engagement.
The session began with a warm address by Prof. V. Praveen Rao, Vice-Chancellor of Kaveri University, who highlighted the vital role universities play in fostering both intellectual and emotional growth. He encouraged students to prioritize self-care, empathy, and mental wellness as integral parts of their academic journey.
Following this, Ms. Zara Ahmed Siddiqui, psychologist and lifestyle expert from Hyderabad, shared insightful guidelines on wellness, emphasizing that mental health is not a luxury but a necessity. She highlighted the importance of early care and community support in fostering resilience, setting the tone for an afternoon centered on empathy, self-awareness, and reflection.
A major highlight of the programme was an Art Therapy session, where students expressed their emotions through colours, patterns, and creative symbols. The activity transformed the room into a vibrant canvas of imagination, allowing participants to paint their feelings, doodle away stress, and experience the calming, healing power of artistic expression. Students reflected that the session helped them unwind and realize that mental health can also be nurtured through self-expression.
Dr. Nida Fatima Hazari, faculty coordinator and conceptualizer of Thrive @ KU, guided the interactive session with warmth and sensitivity. “Our goal through Thrive @ KU is to remind every student that their mental health matters — that growth happens when we connect with ourselves and with others, when we reflect on our inner world, and when we consciously choose to thrive,” shared Dr. Hazari. The initiative continues to evolve as a platform for open dialogue, healing, and holistic development at Kaveri University.
