Speakers hog the limelight at Division H Toastmasters event

JEDDAH — Speakers regaled the gathering with their articulate, inspiring and extempore speeches in the Division H annual contest here, recently held in a star hotel.

The theme of the contest was “Together Everyone achieves More (TEAM)”.

The chief guest at the contest was the Abdulmajeed Bathrudeen, CEO & managing director of Universal Inspection Co. Ltd.

DTM Bala Subramanian gave an inspirational and empowering message on proper planning and taking action in life.

DTM Saji Kuriakose, District 104 Program quality director explained how we could work together and plan for a successful SATAC this year. He also congratulated all the Toastmasters of Division H on successful contest and invited them to register and attend the SATAC 23, which will be held on 19 & 20 May 2023 at Hotel Ramada.

Contest Chair TM Mohammed Hassan Ilyas welcomed all the delegates, Toastmasters and guests, to the contest.

The master of the ceremony TM Muneera Mohammed Ali spoke about the theme and how together everyone can achieves more. Speaking at the contest she said, today it is important to work with our team members to achieve more. “Every aspiring leader needs a team to become successful and to fulfill any vision excellent leadership ability and communication skills are required. The toastmaster’s organization has done a tremendous job in cultivating the leadership and communication in the last few decades. We need to spread this message across in our family, friends and work together to achieve more. We also need to develop more members and continue this legacy,” she added.

Sixteen speakers from three Areas 18, 34 and 37 participated in the contest in four categories: International Speech, Table topics Speech, Humorous speech and evaluation Speech in English contest.

Four speakers from Area 18 participated in three categories: international speech; table topics speech and evaluation contests in Arabic speech contest.

All participants had moved into Division level after winning contests conducted earlier in their respective Areas and Clubs.

In the humorous speeches contest, the contestants entertained the audience with colorful presentation and great humor. TM Askar Ali Khan bagged the first position, whereas TM Khaja Yaminuddin won the second position and TM Silmiya Mohd Ali bagged third place respectively. The contest master for the humorous speeches contest was TM Mohammed N. Ansari while DTM Abdullah Filimban was the chief judge.

In the speech evaluation contest, speakers employing their listening skills gave gratifying feedback on the speech delivered by the test speaker TM Mohammed Abbas. The winner for the speech evaluation contest was TM Mohammed Siraj, while TM Khaja Yaminuddin and TM Ashraf Meleveettil were the first and second runner up respectively. The contest master for the speech evaluation contest was TM Afasja Jajy while TM Mohan Kumar was the chief judge.

In the table topics speech contest, which requires the speakers to deliver impromptu speeches, TM Khaleel Ahmed was pronounced the first place winner whereas TM Khaja Yaminuddin won second and TM Mohammed Almohammedi third place respectively. The contest master for the table topics speech contest was TM Rabiyah Mohiudeen while DTM Mohideen Seeni Ali was the chief judge.

The contest ended with International Speech contest — a 5 to 7 minutes speech delivered on a topic of speaker’s choice devoid of sex, religion or politics. First place winner TM Khaja Yaminuddin, laced with message for life, synchronized gestures and high energy captivated the audience. TM Bilal Ahmed and TM Raushan Razeem enthralled the audience with their inspirational and thought-provoking speeches and won second and third places respectively. The contest master for the International Speech contest was DTM Subramaniam Thangasamy while DTM Rashid Ali Rawther was the chief judge.

The first place winners in all of the four categories will participate in District 104 annual contest (SATAC 23), which will be held on 19 and 20 May 2023.
